How to Successfully Setup a Fitbit Charge 2


Setting up a Fitbit Charge 2 should be straightforward, but it has been a very frustrating experience. Nevertheless I have now successfully set it up. Hence I would like to share this quick tip so everyone can enjoy their Fitbit Charge 2 (or any other Fitbit device) sooner.

Here are the simple steps for getting your Fitbit device setup. I will be pairing my Fitbit Charge 2 device with a laptop running Windows 10 to perform the initial setup. If you’re pairing with your mobile phone, just substitue laptop with mobile phone in the instruction below.

  • Ensure laptop is Bluetooth LE compatible
  • Connect Fitbit to the laptop
  • Install the Fitbit App and Sign up
  • Pair the Fitbit device with your laptop
  • Setup the Fitbit device

Ensure laptop is Bluetooth LE compatible

In the Search box (Cortana), enter device manager. Select to launch Device Manager. Expand Bluetooth and ensure that Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator is present.

Connect Fitbit to the laptop

Connect the USB charger to the Fitbit watch, and then connect this USB to the laptop. Before it is setup, you will the following message flash across the screen:

Install Fitbit App and Sign up

Visit http://www.fitbit.com/setup to download the Fitbit App and install the Fitbit App on the laptop. After the App has been installed, you need to sign up for an account with Fitbit.

Pair Fitbit device with laptop

In the Search box (Cortana), enter Bluetooth. Select Bluetooth Settings. In the Manage Bluetooth devices screen ensure Bluetooth is On (turn on if off). The laptop will try to locate the Fitbit device (ensure it is turned on).

When it has found the Fitbit Charge 2, pair it so that the laptop can communicate with the Fitbit Charge 2 device.

Setup the Fitbit Device

Let’s setup the Fitbit Charge 2 device after you have successfully pair the Fitbit Charge 2 device with the laptop.

Launch the Fitbit App. In the lower right hand corner click on the Account icon (second from right after the ellipsis icon). Then click Setup a device, and let the wizard run to completion. This will usually takes a few minutes (about 10 minutes max).
